In Touch…
… and living life to the fullest!Summer Happenings!
Wow! The summer is going so fast and before you know it, we will be back at work. But for now, I’m enjoying life. Let me start in Atlanta, GA. My 16 year old son, Sterling, was invited to a basketball camp for the top 80 ballers in his region (Houston, TX). This was an honor and a hard earned privilege for him to be able to attend, so his dad and I made sure it happened for him. We spent three days and two nights downtown ATL in the VIP suite because they had messed up our room the night before. Sterling did great at the camp and when we left, his team was 3/0. He did pull out early due to a stress fracture in his foot.
On to North Carolina where there was more good news. My mom had been feeling fatigued and the doctors thought something was wrong with her heart, but after two days of testing, the doctors gave her a clean bill of health. They felt it was more stress than anything. Thank you, Lord!
Since, our journey has begun, I have taken some stunning photographs and very inspirational images. These will be added to my photo collection to aid in the business. I’m having a great time. Notice, I haven’t mentioned much about rest. Vacations are not about getting rest….
Dallas from Different Eyes!
The week of June 23-27, was spent in Dallas at a conference for educators. At first I was like, “This is going to be boring”. But as time progressed, I saw the passion that was coming from so many of the other participants and I closed my eyes and opended them to what the others were seeing.
They were seeing new ideas and initiatives. Some were seeing new hopes for a dying campus morale and poor student performance. Some were seeing a new chance at a future for their students that did not exist before. It’s not that I did not see these things, the problem is that I had already seen these things, that is one of the reasons I got into education. Part of my frustration rested in the fact that it took some longer than others to reach their “A-ha moment”.
Once I stopped being critical and became more introspective, I saw the beauty in their novice ideas and inquisitive thoughts. Many were performing in new positions or had taken on new responsibilities. Unsuspecting educators were thrust together to learn about an educational initiatives, but what left were motivated, hopeful leaders.
Aside from opening my eyes about the people at the conference, I opened my eyes to the city of Dallas. I normally perceived Dallas as just another big city with its shifty characters and fast life style. And while those things may exist in a big city, so does grace and beauty. I again had to close and then reopen my eyes to see better. Rechell and I went on a downtown excursion and these pictures are just some of the beauty we saw.

6/14- Book Meeting
We finished discussing “Spending Cash” and revealed many of the secrets that were buried in the story line. The story ends unexpectedly and with the need for an obvious sequel in order to answer many questions and this upset one reader who wanted everything resolved and everyone to live happily ever after. But unlike fairy tales, life does not always end up with all the questions answered. Another point to make is that the family had so much drama, that trying to squeeze it all into one book would have been forced and unfair to the characters. This first book serves as the foundation for a series of books to come.
The book’s focal character, Cash, brought mixed feelings to the group. Some thought her too needy and an emotional wreck. Others understood after reading to the end, that she has a right to have issues. But the upcoming sequel, “Saving Cash”, will show everyone that Cash will develop fully into being able to save herself.
As They Grow
One of the coolest things about kids is watching them grow up and transform from babies to little kids to teenagers to young adults, and finally into adulthood. Watching them grow can be so much fun along the way. All they want is to be acknowledged, loved, respected, and protected.
Some adults often make the assumption that because children are… children, that they do not need to afford them the same respect they are seeking. In our children, we need to plant seeds of love, honor, citizenship, responsibility, commitment, and so much more. Just by spending a few quality moments with your kids, letting them see you act silly shows them that it is okay to let your hair down every once in a while and just have fun. Life is full of stressors, enjoy the moments that aren’t.
